Tilt-A-Whirl
​1999-2018

Tilt-A-Whirl marked the reintroduction of a classic Cedar Point favorite, bringing back the iconic spinning ride for a new generation of guests to enjoy.

On Friday, November 13, 1998, Cedar Point announced that Camp Snoopy would open for the 1999 season. The new kids’ area was planned to include seven rides, a food stand, a new outdoor theater, and a brand-new roller coaster.

​The entire area would be themed around the beloved Peanuts franchise, creating a fun and immersive experience for young guests and families.

Tilt-A-Whirl officially opened on Sunday, May 9, 1999.

Tilt-A-Whirl was located between Charlie Brown’s Wind-Up and the Camp Snoopy Theatre.

Tilt-A-Whirl was actually the second of its kind at Cedar Point. The first Tilt-A-Whirl was located in the Amusement Circle and thrilled guests until the early 1960s.

Even though Tilt-A-Whirl is located inside a kids’ area, it is not a ride designed for very young children. This is a full-sized Tilt-A-Whirl, and riders often experience spinning and dizziness while enjoying the ride.

Camp Snoopy is a highly themed area based on the Peanuts franchise. By 2018, Tilt-A-Whirl was the last ride in Camp Snoopy that had not been given a Peanuts theme—but that was soon about to change.

Tilt-A-Whirl closed on Sunday, October 28, 2018, ending its run as the last unthemed ride in Camp Snoopy.

On Saturday, February 23, 2019, Cedar Point announced that Tilt-A-Whirl would be rethemed and renamed Linus’ Beetle Bugs for the 2019 season.

Linus’ Beetle Bugs is a themed Tilt-A-Whirl ride located in Camp Snoopy at Cedar Point.

The ride was restored to ensure it would last for many years. It was also repainted and rethemed to better fit the Camp Snoopy area.

Linus’ Beetle Bugs was built by Sellner. It is a standard Tilt-A-Whirl ride that has been themed to the Peanuts franchise.

Linus’ Beetle Bugs was built by Sellner, the same company that manufactures the famous Tilt-A-Whirl ride.

Theming

Linus’ Beetle Bugs features a fun and engaging theme that fits perfectly within the Camp Snoopy area.

The ride may not have the elaborate theming of a Disney or Universal attraction, but it still has a unique and charming feel that makes it special.

Linus’ Beetle Bugs is themed around Linus playing with Beetle Bugs.

The cars are painted with dots, adding extra character and charm to the ride.

Tilt-A-Whirl Anne

Anne is the biggest fan of Linus’ Beetle Bugs! For years, she has visited Cedar Point several times a week. Her favorite ride used to be Tilt-A-Whirl, and she still loves riding Linus’ Beetle Bugs with her friends. Spending time with her on the ride is always a fun experience.

Ride Experience

The ride experience for Linus’ Beetle Bugs begins as soon as riders get in line.

Riders typically wait no more than 5 to 10 minutes to enjoy Linus’ Beetle Bugs.

Riders are loaded into one of seven cars, with each car accommodating up to four guests. The cars are secured with a lap bar that does not lock.

The ride begins by spinning in a clockwise direction.

The cars move up and down small hills, giving riders a gentle sense of airtime as they pass over each rise.

Each car sits inside a small circular platform, spinning independently as it moves. This spinning motion is what gives the ride its excitement and intensity.

Riders can increase the spin of the cars by shifting their weight, as each car is able to freely rotate within its track.

Riders laugh and giggle as they spin and glide over the small hills.

Linus’ Beetle Bugs offers a ride experience that lasts about two minutes.

The ride gradually spins less as it begins to slow down.

Once the ride comes to a complete stop, riders can exit and return to the Camp Snoopy midway.

A Great Fit For Cedar Point 

Linus’ Beetle Bugs was a great addition to Cedar Point when it opened, filling a much-needed spot in Camp Snoopy’s lineup of rides.

The last time Cedar Point added a ride with a similar thrill level to Linus’ Beetle Bugs was when the Million Dollar Midway opened in 1970.

Guests love riding Linus’ Beetle Bugs, and over the years it has become a cherished classic at Cedar Point.

Linus’ Beetle Bugs has been delighting riders at Cedar Point for 27 years, continuing the legacy of the original Tilt-A-Whirl.

Riders must be at least 46 inches tall to ride Linus’ Beetle Bugs alone. Guests under 46 inches may ride with a supervising companion, and all guests under the age of 6 must be accompanied. Hand-held infants are not permitted on the ride.
