Pipe Scream
2014
Pipe Scream opened in 2014 as a family thrill ride on the new Gemini Midway. The ride takes passengers up and down along a wavy track, creating a fun and exciting experience for riders of all ages.
After Top Thrill Dragster opened at Cedar Point, the park began adding a variety of new attractions. In 2005, Cedar Point introduced maXair, a 140-foot-tall swinging pendulum ride. The following year, Skyhawk opened as the world’s tallest swing ride. In 2007, the roller coaster Maverick debuted in Frontier Town.
In 2008, Planet Snoopy was relocated to the park from Geauga Lake. Shoot the Rapids opened in 2010 as the park’s modern log flume ride. In 2011, riders soared 301 feet above the beach on WindSeeker. The attraction Dinosaurs Alive! opened on Adventure Island in 2012.
In 2013, GateKeeper debuted, flying over the park’s newly redesigned front gate. With all of these impressive additions and changes, 2014 would bring yet another new chapter for the park.

Over the years, the Gemini Midway at Cedar Point became increasingly rundown. The area had changed very little since it first opened, maintaining much of the same look and feel it had in 1978. As time went on, it became clear that the Gemini Midway was in need of a major update.

On August 27, 2013, Cedar Point announced plans for a redesigned Gemini Midway. The area would undergo a complete renovation. The former Gemini Children’s Area would be replaced with two new attractions, Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles. The midway would also feature new dining options, including Yogurt Plus and a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine. The makeover promised to give guests an exciting new area of the park to enjoy.

No longer A Roller Coaster
|
In 2024, Cedar Fair and Six Flags merged. Several rides throughout the combined park chain were similar to Pipe Scream, though some parks did not classify their installations as roller coasters.
On February 21, 2026, Cedar Point announced that it would no longer classify Pipe Scream as a roller coaster. The change was made so that similar rides throughout the chain would have a consistent classification. |
Ride Experience
|
Pipe Scream begins by rocking riders back and forth along its 301-foot U-shaped track.
As the ride gains speed, the car begins to spin in a circle. As the ride travels over the hills, riders experience some decent airtime. At the tops of the spikes, riders also get a moment of cool hang time. The ride experience lasts about two and a half minutes. |

Pipe Scream is a fun ride that the entire family can enjoy together.

Pipe Scream's Impact On The Roller Coaster Capital Of The World
|
Pipe Scream was a great addition to Cedar Point. It helped fill the void created over the previous decade by the removal of attractions like Paddlewheel Excursions, Disaster Transport, and Space Spiral.
Today, Pipe Scream remains a great ride for families to enjoy together. |
