Shoot-The-Rapids
1967-1981
Cedar Point worked with Arrow Development to build Shoot-The-Rapids. The ride was designed and built by Cedar Point. Arrow provided Cedar Point with the hardware to operate the ride. Other Cedar Point rides that were also built by Arrow included: Turnpike Cars (1959-2014), Cadillac Cars (1960), Mill Race (1963-1993), Earthquake (1965-1984), Pirate Ride (1966-1996), Antique Cars (1969-2021), Cedar Creek Mine Ride (1969), Corkscrew (1976), Gemini (1978), White Water Landing (1982-2005), Iron Dragon (1987), Magnum XL-200 (1989), and Snake River Falls (1993).

On June 30, 1977 a tornado went thru Frontier Town. Shoot-The-Rapids, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad, and several buildings were damaged by the storm.
Cedar Point repaired the damaged rides including Shoot-The-Rapids. The park would continue to have issues with the ride until it was removed from the park. |
After adding Shoot-The-Rapids in 1967 Cedar Point would go on to add: Frontier Lift (1968-1985), Cedar Creek Mine Ride (1969), Antique Cars (1969-2021), Cedar Point's 100th Anniversary Celebration (1970), Frontier Trail (1971), Giant Wheel (1972), Jumbo Jet (1972-1978), Matterhorn (1972), Frontier Carousel (1972-1994), Cedar Point Cinema (1975-2001), Corkscrew (1976), Troika (1976), Gemini (1978), Gemini Children's Area (1979-2013), Wave Swinger (1979), WildCat (1979-2011), Oceania (1980-1997), and Ocean Motion (1981) All of theses attractions helped balance out Cedar Point's attractions.
