Sky Fighters

Sky Fighters is a kids’ ride located in Kiddy Kingdom at Cedar Point.

It is not known exactly when Sky Fighters opened at Cedar Point.

In 1952, Cedar Point opened a new Kiddieland area featuring 10 rides. The new area was located to the left of the Coliseum, where the Sky Ride is today.
Sky Fighters was located in that Kiddieland area.

In 1960, Kiddieland was relocated to the other side of the Coliseum, where Kiddy Kingdom is located today. Sky Fighters was moved around this time.

In 1970, Kiddieland was expanded to become the largest kids’ area in the world. During the expansion, the rides already in the area were slightly relocated to give the section a refreshed appearance. Sky Fighters was then moved to the left of the Carousel.

Sky Fighters was built by the Allan Herschell Company. This ride was installed at dozens of parks. Today, it can still be found at a few locations, including Knoebels Amusement Resort and Hersheypark.

Sky Fighters is located in Kiddy Kingdom between Roto Whip and the Kiddy Kingdom Carousel.

Cedar Point has two similar rides to Sky Fighters. In 1999, Red Baron opened in Camp Snoopy. In 2008, Cedar Point added Snoopy’s Space Race in Planet Snoopy.

Ride Experience

The entrance to Sky Fighters is located on the side of the ride closest to Roto Whip. The ride does not have a designated queue space.

Riders typically do not wait long to board Sky Fighters and are usually able to ride on the next cycle. It is very rare to wait more than one cycle.

Riders are loaded into one of eight cars, with each car holding two riders. One rider faces forward while the other faces backward. Riders are secured with a seatbelt.

Sky Fighters begins moving in a counterclockwise circle.

The ride must complete a full rotation while still spinning along the ground.

After one rotation, all of the cars on the ride rise about four feet into the air.

Riders in the front have a handle that gives them the illusion that they are driving the planes. Both riders also have a button they can press that produces a beeping sound.

Riders fly around above Kiddy Kingdom, receiving a unique view of the area.

Riders fly for about two minutes before the ride descends.

Riders are unloaded once the cars return to the ground.

Becoming a Classic

Sky Fighters has entertained guests at Cedar Point for 65 years.

Guests have come to love Sky Fighters over the years, and it has become a classic for many visitors. The ride has been enjoyed by multiple generations of guests at Cedar Point.

Sky Fighters is a very gentle ride that kids love.

Over the years, Cedar Point has become known for its major thrill rides like Millennium Force, Magnum XL-200, maXair, Power Tower, and many more. Those attractions are geared toward adults, while Sky Fighters provides a fun, gentle thrill experience designed for kids.

Riders must be able to walk independently and be under 54 inches tall to ride Sky Fighters.
