The Early 1960's was of big expansion for Cedar Point. Very popular rides like Mill Race, Blue Streak, Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad, Sky Ride, Western Cruise, Caddallic Cars and Turnpike Cars were added to the park by 1964. These new rides that were added to the park became the new favorites. Over time, they would become the park's ''old favorites". The new rides that opened in the early 1960's were all record breaking in some way, including the second log flume in the world! The future of Cedar Point looked really bright. 1965 would be no exception for Cedar Point!
1965 was a huge year of expansion for Cedar Point. New games, food and a new record breaking ride were added to the park. |

After the Park closed for the 1964 season on Labor Day, Cedar Point began construction on its new offerings for the 1965 season. One of those new rides would be Space Spiral.
When Space Spiral was built, it was the first amusement ride in the world to reach 300 feet in height! In 1965 that was a huge deal! No one had ever seen a ride so big before! In 1965 Cedar Point was a small park in Ohio. At that time, Cedar Point was known for entertainment. Space Spiral was Cedar Point's first ride to have any type of records when it opened! |

Space Spiral was built and designed by Von Roll. Space Spiral was an observation tower.
Space Spiral had a double-decker cabin that could hold 60 riders at a time. ( 30 per floor) |

Space Spiral's tower was 330 feet tall and it had a foundation going 30 feet below ground.
The Ride took its riders up to a point that was 285 feet up in the air. |

From the top of Space Spiral, you would get a fantastic view of Cedar Point, the Lake Erie Islands and Sandusky!
Cedar Spiral would be a Cedar Point icon for 47 years. |

On Friday, July 13, 2012, Cedar Point was hosting It's Coaster Mania event. During Dinner, Cedar Point announced to its coaster enthusiast, that it would be retiring Space Spiral and Disaster Transport for future expansion.

|
Disaster Transport closed on July 29, 2012. On August 13, 2012, Cedar Point announced that Disaster Transport and Space Spiral were being removed from the park to be replaced with the new record breaking GateKeeper roller coaster.
The Park closed at 10p.m. on August 13, 2012,. That would be the final ride for Space Spiral. |

On August 14, 2012, Space Spiral and Troika disappeared behind the construction fence that was put up to remove Disaster Transport.

The Space Spiral remained standing for a while after the fence was put up. The next few weeks the ride would stand, but not operate.

|
|
|
|
|
During it's time at Cedar Point, Space Spiral was ridden by over 48 million riders. The ride was an icon for Cedar Point for 47 years.

On September 12, 2012, at 7:30 a.m. Space Spiral was blown up and the ride landed on the beach. Construction workers had dug a pit in the sand for the ride to land in. The ride missed the pit, by about 6 inches.
