In the 1960s, Cedar Point began adding attractions that would significantly expand its collection. In 1962, guests could enjoy scenic views without riding a roller coaster when the Sky Ride opened on the Main Midway.
In 1963, the park introduced the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad as well as the Mill Race. Mill Race was only the second log flume ride ever built. The ever-popular Blue Streak (1964) was the first major roller coaster to open at Cedar Point since 1929. Space Spiral became the tallest ride in the world when it opened in 1965. In 1966, Cedar Point debuted Pirate Ride, a dark ride that transported guests back to the days when pirates roamed the high seas.
Frontier Town opened in 1967, adding to the park’s immersive themed experiences. In 1968, Sky Slideopened just off the Main Midway. Then, in 1969, Cedar Point added another roller coaster: Cedar Creek Mine Ride.

1970 was a huge year for Cedar Point. It marked the park’s 100th anniversary, and the celebration was done in a big way.

In the marina, Cedar Point added Pet Check, a pet-sitting service.
Near the front of the park, Cedar Point introduced the Centennial Theatre, Calypso, and Hofbräu Gardens. Kiddieland was expanded to double its size and was advertised as the largest in the world. On the Beach Midway, Cedar Point added the Wildcat roller coaster and the Sealand attraction. The train station was moved back to make way for a new midway called Million Dollar Midway. This area was home to Bayern Kurve, Dodgem 2, Himalaya, Monster, and Tiki Twirl. The Western Cruise station was also relocated there, and Paddlewheel Café opened. Fifty-six years later, all of these attractions have either been relocated or removed, with only three remaining under their original themes. |

Himalaya opened just off the Main Midway. The ride was located between Marina Gate and the Dodgem 2 ride, where it remained until the end of the 1974 season

In 1975, Cedar Point opened the Cedar Point Cinema. The ride was temporarily removed from the park and placed in storage from 1975 to 1977 to make room for the new attraction.

For the 1978 season, Himalaya came out of storage. The ride was located between Jumbo Jet and Matterhorn near Space Spiral. The ride was then renamed Super Himalaya.

In 1979, Super Himalaya was moved to the opposite side of the Beach Midway, to the former Wildcat site.

In 1999, Super Himalaya was relocated once again to make room for Camp Snoopy. This time, the ride was moved to an area between Power Tower and Corkscrew.
|

|
|
|
|
Super Himalaya is located in a section of the park with larger rides. It gives families with children who are not quite tall enough for the bigger attractions an alternative option. All of the rides on the Corkscrew Midway require riders to be either 48 or 52 inches tall, except Super Himalaya.

Super Himalaya was built by Mack Rides. Mack Rides also built other rides for Cedar Point, including Tiki Twirl, Calypso, Matterhorn, and Schwabinchen.

Ride Experience

Super Himalaya’s ride experience begins at the entrance, which is located to the left of the ride.
The average wait time for Super Himalaya is 3–5 minutes. It is often a walk-on attraction with little to no wait. |

Riders are loaded into small cars. Each car can comfortably fit two adults, or two adults and a small child.
|
|

Super Himalaya starts out spinning clockwise in a circle.

As the ride goes faster, riders are pulled toward the center of the ride. The ride also moves up and down over small hills.

Super Himalaya plays rock and hip-hop music for guests. This ride is sure to entertain even those who choose not to ride.

Super Himalaya is covered in hundreds of lights. These lights illuminate the ride and brighten the entire midway. It creates a spectacular sight for everyone walking by.

Super Himalaya has been a very popular ride since it opened. In 2025, Cedar Point celebrated the 55th anniversary of the ride’s debut at the park.

Riders must be at least 52 inches tall to ride alone. Riders under 52 inches must be accompanied by an adult. Held infants are not permitted on this ride.
