Troika
1976
Troika is a classic family ride that has been part of Cedar Point since 1976.
In the 1960s and 1970s, Cedar Point was on its way to becoming a modern amusement park. During this time, the park began an aggressive expansion. In 1966, Cedar Point added Pirate Ride, a dark ride that took guests back in time to when pirates roamed the high seas. In 1967, Cedar Point opened its first themed section, Frontiertown. Sky Slide opened in 1968, followed by Cedar Creek Mine Ride in 1969 as Frontiertown expanded. In 1970, Cedar Point celebrated its 100th anniversary. Frontier Trail opened in 1971, taking guests back to a time when people made things by hand. In 1972, Giant Wheel opened, and in 1975, Cedar Point Cinema debuted as the world’s largest IMAX theatre.
With all of these rides being added, Cedar Point was becoming a great park for the whole family!

In 1976, the area that had been home to Jungle Larry was redesigned, and an entirely new midway was added to that land.
Two new rides were introduced: Corkscrew and Troika, with Troika located just beyond Corkscrew. |
Over the next 26 years, the area around Troika continued to change. Jungle Larry’s was removed in 1994, Chaos was built in 1997, and Power Tower was added in 1998. Dodgem 1 had its final season in 2001.

During the fall, Troika and Chaos were completely removed from the Corkscrew Midway.

On January 9, 2003, Cedar Point announced that Top Thrill Dragster would open later that year. The ride would be the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. To make room for it, Troika and Chaos were relocated to the Beach Midway.
In 2003, Troika was relocated to a new spot on the Beach Midway near Disaster Transport and Space Spiral to make way for the addition of Top Thrill Dragster.

Troika was built by HUSS, a manufacturer based in Bersenbrück, Germany. It was one of four rides at Cedar Point built by HUSS. The others include Witches’ Wheel (1979–2018), Ocean Motion (1981), and maXair (2005). These rides add to Cedar Point’s lineup and help make the park’s collection of attractions unique.
In 2023, Cedar Point opened The Boardwalk, a reimagined Beach Midway. The Boardwalk is now the official name of the area where Troika is located.
Troika received a new color scheme to better fit in with The Boardwalk.

The Troika ride concept was developed sometime in the mid-1970s. Many different parks have featured this ride at one point or another, and it was also designed to be a traveling attraction. There are currently 13 parks in the United States that have a Troika ride, and at least 25 known Troika installations worldwide.
Troika remains a popular ride and can often draw wait times of 15 to 20 minutes. |
Troika is located on The Boardwalk between Giant Wheel and GateKeeper.

Ride Experience
Troika is a great ride for families. It isn’t the tamest attraction, but it’s also not as intense as rides like maXair and Skyhawk. It falls somewhere in between.
