Blue Streak Midway
The Blue Streak Midway is the area in front of Blue Streak that is located on the let side of the Raptor roller coster. Blue Streak Midway's roots can be traced back to the days of the Amusement Circle that opened in 1906. The midway has grown and changed several times over the years.
Today the Blue Streak Midway is home to 2 roller coasters, 1 restaurant, 1 game, and 1 gift shop,. |
History
In 1906 Cedar Point opened the Amusement Circle. The Amusement Circle ran in a semi-circle from the bay landing to just east of the bath house.
The first known thing to use the Blue Streak Midway was the Leap the Dips roller coaster. It opened in 1912 and was an out and back style roller coaster. It closed in 1935. |
In May 1956 Cedar Point was purchased by George Roose and Emile Legross. Their original plan was to close the park and replace it with a housing development. After a storm of public outcry they studied the operation.
These two additions helped prove how popular Cedar Point could be, and they would focus on turning Cedar Point into "The Disneyland of the Midwest".
In 1966 Pirate Ride opened at Cedar Point. The ride was moved from Freedomland Theme Park in New York. The ride was a dark ride that took riders on a journey from when pirates would ransack the high seas. To make room for Pirate Ride, Silver Dollar Cafe was torn down and replaced with a bigger restaurant.
Pirate Ride would close at the end of the 1996 season. |
