Mean Streak was the largest wooden roller coaster Cedar Point ever built. Located in Frontiertown Mean Streak took riders on a journey like no other.

The 1980's was a good time for Cedar Point. The park added attractions that rounded out what it had to offer. In 1983, White Water Landing started entertaining guest in Frontier Town. Demon Drop started dropping its riders in May 1983. In 1985 riders were treated to a ride that advertised as more thrilling then Gemini! Avalanche Run was the only Bobsled Coaster in the Midwest. In 1986, Thunder Canyon started to soak guest on Frontier Trail. Iron Dragon introduced Cedar Point to a new hanging style roller coaster in 1987. Soak City brought all new attention in 1988 for guest who wanted to be wet. The tallest and fasted roller coaster in the world opened in 1989, Magnum XL-200 fired the first shots that started to roller coaster wars of who could build the tallest and fastest! After Avalanche Run didn't thrill like anticipated, riders were launched into outer-space when the ride was enclosed, re-themed and re-named as Disaster Transport. The 1980's started a period of rapid expansion for Cedar Point. This period of expansion would be continued in 1991.

in 1990, Six Flags Over Texas opened the Texas Giant. Texas Giant was a giant twisted wooden roller coaster.

On October 24, 1990, Cedar Point announced it was building Mean Streak. Mean Streak was built in 9 months and was a bigger, taller. faster and improved version of Texas Giant.

Mean Streak opened at Cedar Point in 1991. At that time, Mean Streak became Cedar Point's 10th roller coaster. At that point, it was very impressive that Cedar Point had that many roller coasters!

When Mean Streak opened in 1991, it broke the following records:
- Tallest Wooden Roller Coaster in the world.
- Fastest Wooden Roller Coaster in the world.
- Longest Drop on a wooden Roller Coaster

In 1991 Mean Streak was Cedar Point's second tallest roller coaster. It was the first wooden roller built at Cedar Point in 27 years.

Mean Streak's records were taken away when The Rattler opened at Fiesta Texas in 1992.
|
|
Mean Streak was built by the Dinn Corporation of Cincinnati, Ohio. The ride was designed by Curtis D. Summers. The is an improved version of The Texas Giant that was built in 1990 at Six Flags Over Texas. Mean Streak was built to be taller, faster, a bit steeper and longer then Texas Giant.

When Mean Streak opened it was much smother then it was when the ride was closed. Fans would wait in line for 3 to 4 hours sometimes. On extremely busy days the entire line where riders would wait in line would be full.

While it wasn't the best roller coaster in the world, Mean Streak was considered to be an OK ride when it first opened. It did have some fans at the time. The ride over the next few years became very very rough.

Mean Streak is 1.7 million board feet of lumber. It is often thought that Mean Streak has the most wood that anyone will ever seen in one place!

Mean Streak was one huge coaster! It has the most track of any roller coaster at Cedar Point! Mean Streak was built at an impressive cost of 7.5 million Dollars!!!

Mean Streak begins with a downward right turn out of the station before the ride goes up the lift hill.

The ride then starts to go up the first hill.
|
|

Mean Streak lifts its riders up a 161 foot tall lift hill that is located near the water. On the way up the hill, you got an amazing view of Cedar Point!

Mean Streak was built to celebrate 100 years of roller coasters at Cedar Point. Mean Streak has been the tallest wooden roller coaster ever built at Cedar Point.

|
Mean Streak dropped its riders 155 feet at a 52 degree angle.
|

Mean Streak reached speeds of 66 miles an hour!

|
|

Mean Streak was known as a twister coaster, this means that the ride criss crossed over and under its self many times. The ride was over a mile of track!

While Mean Streak was at Cedar Point, 12 roller coasters were added. The following opened after Mean Streak:

Mean Streak was often considered to be one of the parks best roller coasters to look at. The ride had so much wood!!!!

Over the years, a lot of people complained that the ride was very rough and as a result, the ride lost a lot of ridership causing very short to no waits.
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
Over the years, the ride was re tracked many times and redesigned by 2 different companies.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
In 2010, Mean Streak officially got a sign marking the entrance of the ride.
|
|
|
|

On August 1, 2016. Cedar Point Announced that Mean Streak would be getting the Axe and would close forever on September 16th, 2016

Mean Streak closed forever on September 16, 2016.

|
|
Shortly after the ride closed, construction crews started to come to the park to start talking sections of the ride down.
|
|
|
|
|
In October steel ledgers and steel track started to appear on the ground near the ride.
|
|
|
As the winter went on construction crews continued to remove Mean Streaks track. The park was very quiet on what was happening with the ride.
|
|
On April 1, 2017, Cedar Point posted a video that teased what they had been doing to the old ride.
|
|
|
|
|
When Cedar Point opened in May 2017 it was very clear that Mean Streak was in the process of being transformed into something new.
|
|
|
|
|
|
As the summer went on, so did construction. The ride kept getting bigger and better.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
About once a month, the park would release a brief video showing off construction of the new ride.
|
|
|
|
|
On August 16, 2017, Cedar Point announced that they were transforming the former Mean Streak into the new Steel Vengeance record braking roller coaster.
|
|
|
|
|
Steel Vengeance is the tallest, fastest, longest and wildest roller coaster of it's kind. Steel Vengeance stands 205 feet tall and reaches speeds of 74 MPH! Riders are flipped upside down 4 times!

|
|
|
After the ride was announced, crews continued to finish it.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Steel Vengeance opened to the public on May 5, 2018. The ride is very good and an instant hit!
|
|
|
|
|
|
While Mean Streak was a horrible experience for it's riders, it set the next pace for what Steel Vengeance would become. Steel Vengeance is a great ride that will continue Mean Streaks legacy.
