Dodgem is Cedar Point bumper car ride.
Dodgem is a great ride for the entire family.
In the 1960's Cedar Point was adding attractions that would grow its collection. In 1962 guest could see the sights without ever riding a roller coaster when Sky Ride opened in the Main Midway. 1963 brought the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad as well as The Mill Race. Mill Race was only the second Log Flume ride that was ever built. The ever-popular Blue Streak (1964) was the first major roller coaster to open at Cedar Point since 1929. Space Spiral became the tallest ride in the world when it opened in 1965. In 1966 Cedar Point opened Pirate Ride. Pirate Ride was a dark ride that took guest back in time to when pirates ransacked the high seas. Frontiertown opened in 1967. In 1968 SkySlide opened just off the Main Midway. In 1969, Cedar Point added its next roller coaster, Cedar Creek Mine Ride.
In the Marnia Cedar Point added Pet Check, a pet sitting service.
Near the Front of the park Cedar Point added The Centennial Theatre, Calypso, and Hofbrau Gardens. Kiddieland was expanded to double its size. It was advertised as the largest in the world. On the Beach Cedar Point added the WildCat Roller Coaster and the Sealand attraction. The train station was moved back to make way for a new midway. The new midway was called Million Dollar Midway. Million Dollar Midway was home to: Bayern Kurve, Dodgem 2, Himalaya, Monster and Tiki Twirl. The Western Cruise's station was also relocated here and Paddlewheel Cafe opened. 50 years later: All of these attractions have been relocated or removed. 3 of them remain with the same theme they had then. |
Originally named Dodgem 2, the ride opened in 1970 on the Million Dollar Midway.
Dodgem 2 was placed at the far end of the midway across from the Sky Ride station near the Marina Gate. |
In 1977 the original Dodgem was relocated to the Corkscrew midway and was placed in a new building.
2001 was the final season for Dodgem 1. In the Spring of 2002, Cedar Point removed Dodgem 1 from the park. Soon after the ride was removed and began construction on Top Thrill Dragster.

The ride also got new landscaping, making the ride fit in more with the Wicked twister Midway.
The ride really looks better in its new location.
Bumper Cars are a staple classic ride for amusement park. All great amusement parks have a bumper car ride, Dodgem is Cedar Point's.
A New Era Begins
While the ride received a re-fresh in 2015, not much actually changed with the ride itself. It was the same ride it always was just in a new location with a new paint job.
The new cars are really cool! They move really easy. They are bigger than the old cars and are more conferrable.
The new cars don't have a seat belt, they just have a lap bar that does not lock. Because of this, it makes loading and unloading much faster. These new cars really improved the ride expeience! |
Ride Expereience
The average wait time for Dodgem is 5-10 minutes. The longest wait time is usually 15 minutes.
Dodgem is a very fun ride. Dodgem is the only ride in the park in which it is permitted for riders to hit their car with another car.
Riders drive their bumper car on a slippery floor. While you're driving, it is your goal to bumper as many cars as you can! Dodgem is a really fun ride! riders are sure to laugh and giggle while they bump other cars! Dodgem last for a minute and a half. |
