No one likes to see things go, but on this page lets take a moment to honor the rides that Cedar Point has removed to make way for new expansion. Some of these rides have been family favorites and some have been the park's thrill rides and roller coasters.
Antique CarsOpened: 1969
Closed: September 12, 2021 Manufacturer: Arrow Dynamics Location: Frontier Town Type: Antique Cars Antique Cars were located in the middle of Frontier Town. Antique Cars opened in 1969. Riders drove around in small old fashioned style cars. |
Avalanche RunOpened: July 1,1985
Closed: October 1,1989 Manufacturer: Intamin AG Location: Beach Midway Type: bobsled coaster Avalanche Run opened at Cedar Point in 1985. Avalanche Run was Cedar Point's Bobsled Roller Coaster. It was also the tallest Bobsled roller coaster in the world when it opened. Riders would race thru the rides trough as they make their way thru the ride. Avalanche Run was considered boring by many of its riders. The ride would be converted into Disaster Transport in 1990. |
Bayern KurveOpened: 1970
Closed: 1984 Manufacturer:Schwarzkopf Location: Million Dollar Midway Type: Bayern Kurve Bayern Kurve was a spinning ride added to Cedar Point in 1970 for the parks 100th anniversary expansion. Riders were loaded into small cars and spun around in a circle over a small hill. The ride was removed at the end of the 1984 season to make room for WildCat. |
Broadway TripOpened: 1964
Closed: 1964 Manufacturer: Mack Rides Location: Main Midway Broadway Trip was a small roller coaster that featured a few small dips. The ride was located on Cedar Point's Main Midway. |
Bumper BoatsOpened: 1993
Closed: October 27, 2013 Manufacturer: Bumper Boats, INC Location: Kiddy Kingdom (1993-1997) Gemini Children's Area (1998-2013) Type: Miniature Bumper Boats Bumper Boats opened at Cedar Point in 1993 in the Kiddy Kingdom section of the park. The ride was a water boat that was similar to bumper cars. In 1998 the ride was relocated to Gemini Children's Area where it received a new in ground pool. The ride closed in 2013 to make room for the new Gemini Midway renovation. |
CalypsoOpened: 1964
Closed: 1969 Manufacturer: Mack Rides Location: 1964 near Sky Ride 1965-1967 adjacent to Silver Dollar Cafe 1968-1969 adjacent to Sealand Type: Spinning Ride Calypso opened at Cedar Point in 1964. The ride was relocated many times in the 1960s. 1969 was Calypso's last year as Calypso. The ride was rethemed and renamed Tiki Twirl in 1970. Tiki Twirl was removed in 1984. |
CalypsoOpened: 1970
Closed: 2014 Manufacturer: Mack Rides Location: 1970-1993 beside Mill Race 1994-2014 between Blue Streak and Turnpike Cars Type: Spinning Ride Calypso opened at Cedar Point in 1970. When the ride first opened it had a ton of theming. Over the years the ride was moved a few times. As the ride was moved it would lose more theming each time. Calypso was a spinning family ride. In 2015, Calypso was renamed, relocated and rethemed to the current Tiki Twirl. |
Cedar Classic Miniature GolfOpened: 1961
Closed: 1991 Location: Present-day Kiddy Kingdom (1961-1969) Present-day Planet Snoopy (1970-1991) Type: Mini Golf Cedar Classic Miniature Golf opened at Cedar Point in 1961 near the Coliseum. In 1970 the attraction was relocated next to Sky Slide. It was removed in 1991 to make room for a Berenstain Bear Country expansion. |
Challenge GolfOpened: 1992
Closed: 2016 Location: Challenge Golf Type: Mini Golf Challenge Golf opened in 1992 in the newly formed Challenge Park. Challenge Golf was a set of mini golf courses. The attraction was demolished in 2016 to make room for the new Hotel Breakers expansion for 2018. |

Closed: 2015 Manufacturer: Formula K Raceways Location: Challenge Racing Type: Go Karts Challenge Racing opened in 1992 as part of the new Challenge Park area. After racing for 23 years, Challenge Racing was closed forever in 2015. Challenge Racing was replaced with a new slide in the water park. |
ChaosOpened: 1997
Closed: 2010 Manufacturer: Chance Rides Location: Corkscrew Midway (1997-2002) Beach Midway (2003-2010) Type: Chaos Chaos thrill ride was at Cedar Point from 1997 to 2010. Even thou Chaos is no longer operating at Cedar Point, it was one of a few rides of its kind to last as long as it did. Chaos was replaced by Three Point Challenge. |
Choo Choo LagoonOpened: 1995
Closed: 2016 Manufacturer: White Water West Location: Soak City Type: Children's Pool Choo Choo Lagoon was added to Soak City Water Park in 1995 as the park's second children's play area. The area was themed as a train area. The attraction was replaced in 2017 with Lakeslide Landing and Lemmy's Lagoon. |
The CycloneOpened: 1929
Closed: 1951 Manufacturer: Harry G Traver Location: Beach Midway Type: wooden coaster In 1929 The Cyclone opened on the Cedar Point Beach where it replaced The Racer. The Cyclone was scientifically built for speed. Over the years the ride would be very wild and intense. It closed in 1951 after the ride fell in a state of disrepair. |
Demon DropOpened: 1983
Closed: 2009 Manufacturer: Intamin AG Location: Main Midway Type: Free Fall Demon Drop opened in 1983 and operated until 2009. Demon Drop was a 131 foot tall drop tower. In 2011 it was replaced with Ocean Motion, Demon Drop currently operates at Dorney Park as Demon Drop. Fun Fact: Demon Drop was the third tallest ride at Cedar Point from 1983 until 1988. |
Disaster TransportOpened: May 5,1990
Closed: July 29, 2012 Manufacturer: ITEC Tech Location: Beach Midway Type: indoor bobsled In 1990 Avalanche Run was converted into Disaster Transport. Disaster Transport took riders on an adventure into space. It was Cedar Point's most themed roller coaster ever built. As the ride aged the theming broke and was not fixed. Disaster Transport was a cool ride, but it didn't always click with the people who rode it. It was often considered one of the worst rides ever built. It was removed in the 2012 season and was replaced with GateKeeper. |
Dodgem 1Opened: 1960
Closed: 2001 Manufacturer: Jhle Brothers Location: Main Midway (1960-1976) Corkscrew Midway (1977-2001) Type: Spinning Ride Dodgem #1 opened in 1960 near the current Jack Aldrich Theater. In 1977 the ride was moved to the new Corkscrew Midway where it was given a new building. The ride closed in 2001 to make room for Top Thrill Dragster. The ride was relocated to Michigan's Adventure in 2002. |
EarthquakeOpened: 1965
Closed: 1984 Manufacturer: Development Location: Main Midway Type: Dark Ride Earthquake was moved to Cedar Point in 1965 from Freedomland Amusement Park. Earthquake was a dark ride that was located on Cedar Point's Main Midway. The ride closed in 1984 to be replaced with Berenstain Bears. In 1999 the building became home to Snoopy Boutique. |
Flying SkootersOpened: 1944
Closed: 1960 Manufacturer: Bisch-Rocco Location: Current location of Jack Aldrich Theatre Type: Flying Skooters Flying Skooters was a classic family spinning ride. The ride was located near the current Jack Aldrich Theatre. The ride closed in 1960 to make room for the Main Midway. In 2014, a modern version of this ride reopened on the new Gemini Midway named Lake Erie Eagles. |
Frog HopperOpened: 1998
Closed: 2013 Manufacturer: S&S Location: Gemini Children's Area Type: Frog Hopper Frog Hopper was added to the Gemini Children's Area in 1998. Frog Hopper was a mini Power Tower that gave kids a new thrill ride. The ride was known as Frog Hopper until the end of the 2013 season. In 2014 the ride was moved to Camp Snoopy where it became Woodstock's Airmail. |
Frontier LiftOpened: 1968
Closed: 1985 Manufacturer: Von Roll Location: Adventure Island Type: Sky Ride In 1968 Cedar Point opened Frontier Lift. The ride was a second way to get to Frontier Town. Frontier Lift was a sky ride that took riders over the Cedar Point Lagoons. It closed in 1985. Fun Fact: Frontier Lift's cars replaced Sky Ride's cars in 1986. |
Frontier CarouselOpened: 1972
Closed: 1994 Manufacturer: Dentzel Location: Frontier Town Type: Carrousel Frontier Carousel was added to Cedar Point in 1972. The ride was a Denzil Carousel. It was moved to Dorney Park in 1995. |
Fun HouseOpened: 1966
Closed: 1981 Location: Beach Midway Type: Fun House Fun House was a family walk-through fun house at Cedar Point from 1966-1981. Fun House was replaced in 1982 with Kid Arthur's Court. |
High FrolicsOpened: June 16, 1924
Closed: September 4, 1939 Manufacturer: A. Vettel Location: Amusement Circle Type: wooden coaster High Frolics was a rebuilt Leap Frog Railway. The ride operated where Blue Streak is today. It was an out and back roller coaster. It closed in 1939 due to low ridership. |
Hot RodsOpened: 1970
Closed: 2013 Manufacturer: Hampton Location: Kiddy Kingdom Type: Children's Ride Hot Rods was a small circular ride located in Kiddy Kingdom. The ride opened in 1970. In 2013 the ride was replaced with Rock Spin and Turn. |
Jr. GeminiOpened: May 12,1979
Closed: October 27, 2013 Manufacturer: Intamin AG Location: Gemini Children's Area Type: children's coaster Jr. Gemini opened in 1979 as Cedar Point's kids coaster. Jr. Gemini was 19 feet tall and reached speeds of 6 MPH. Jr. Gemini was the first roller coaster that Intamin built. For the 2014 season, Jr. Gemini was made part of Camp Snoopy. The ride was rethemed as Wilderness Run. |
Jumbo JetOpened: July 1,1972
Closed: September 17,1978 Manufacturer: Schwarzkopf Location: Beach Midway Type: jumbo jet Jumbo Jet was a small steel roller coaster that was located on the Cedar Point Beach. Jumbo Jet featured an unique spiral lift hill. Jumbo Jet was a powered coaster. The ride was removed because it had a lot of mechanical problems. The ride currently operates in Asia. |
Krazy KarsOpened: 1970
Manufacturer: Lankin Manufacturing Manufacture: Lankin Manufacturing Location: Kiddy Kingdom Type: Mini Bumper Cars Krazy Kars opened in 1970 in the Kiddieland Section of the park. Krazy Kars were bumper cars for kids. In 2015, Krazy Kars were moved to Planet Snoopy where it became Joe Cool's Dodgem School to make room for Dodgem. |
MantisOpened: May 11, 1996
Closed: October 19, 2014 Manufacturer: Bolliger & Mabillard Location: Frontier Trail Type: stand up Mantis was Cedar Point's Stand Up Roller Coaster. Mantis was 145 feet tall and reached speeds of 60 MPH. Riders would be flipped upside down 4 times. Mantis was the tallest and fastest Stand Up roller coaster when it opened. In 1996 Mantis was an ok ride. As time went on the ride would get a bad reputation for being very uncomfortable. The ride was closed in 2014 and was converted into Rougarou. |
Mean StreakOpened: May 11,1991
Closed: September 16,2016 Manufacturer: Dinn Corporation Location: Frontier Town Type: wooden coaster Mean Streak opened in 1991 as the world's tallest and fastest Wooden Roller Coaster. Mean Streak took riders up 161 feet. Riders would drop 155 feet, reaching speeds of 66 MPH. Mean Streak had an outback around where the ride would go around 3 times. Mean Streak would go over and under itself many times. Mean Streak would be known as one of the roughest and most boring roller coaster around. The ride closed in 2016 and was converted into Steel Vengeance. |

Mill Race was a log flume ride. The ride was removed after the 1993 season and replaced with the Raptor roller coaster! |

Closed: 1965 Manufacturer: Ohio Mechanical Company Location: Blue Streak Midway Type: Monorail Monorail opened at Cedar Point in 1959. When it opened it was the most popular ride that summer. Monorail took riders on a course 9 feet above the ground. Monorail was located between Cedar Point and the Cedar Point Marina. It was scrapped in 1965. |
Noah's Ark

Manufacturer: Philadelphia Toboggan Company Type: Funhouse Location: Amusement Circle Closed: 1959 Current location of Jack Aldrich Theatre Noah's Ark was a fun house that was located in Cedar Point's amusement circle. Noah's Ark was a fun house that featured a rocking ark. Guests would walk through the ark and experience wooden figures and other cool tricks to entertain guests. |

Paddlewheel ExcursionsOpened: 1987
Closed: 2011 Manufacturer: Cedar Point Location: Gemini Midway Type: Family Boat Ride In 1987 Western Cruise was moved to a new midway to make room for Iron Dragon. As a result, the ride received a new identity, Paddlewheel Excursions. Paddlewheel Excursions was a boat ride that took you around an island. The ride had jokes and animatronics. Paddlewheel Excursions closed in 2011 to make room for Dinosaurs Alive. |
Pirate RideOpened: 1966
Closed: 1996 Manufacturer: Arrow Dynamics Location: Blue Streak Midway Type: Dark Ride Pirate Ride was moved to Cedar Point from Freedomland Amusement Park in 1966. The ride was placed next to Blue Streak. Pirate Ride was a dark ride that took riders on a trip back to when pirates ransacked the high seas. Pirate Ride was removed after the 1996 season. The building is used today as the Park Services Warehouse. |

Closed: 1928 Manufacturer: McKay Construction Location: Beach Midway Type: wooden racing coaster The Racer was a small Wooden Roller Coaster that was located on Cedar Point's beach. Riders would race around a small course on this ride. The Racer was removed in 1928 to make room for Cyclone. |
RipCordOpened: 1996
Closed: 2016 Manufacturer: SkyCoaster Location: Challenge Park Type: Sky Coaster In 1996 Cedar Point added RipCord as an expansion to Challenge Park. RipCord was an upcharge attraction that swung its riders thru the air. When Challenge Park was closed in September 2016, the ride was closed and prepared to be moved to its new location to become a new experience! |
RotorOpened: 1967
Closed: 1984 Manufacturer: Chance Rides Location: Beach Midway Type: Rotor In 1967 Cedar Point opened a new smaller version of the Rotor. The new Rotor was located on the Beach Midway. Rotor was a ride which guests would stand up against the wall and the floor would drop below them. The ride was removed in 1984 to make room for Schwabichen. |
Satellite JetsOpened: 1961
Closed: 1986 Manufacturer: Klaus Rides Location: Blue Streak Midway Type: Jet Ride Satellite Jets opened in 1961 in the middle of the Main Midway. When the ride arrived at Cedar Point they had no instructions on how to put it together. Satellite Jets was a spinning rocket ride. Guests could control how high they went. Satellite Jets were eventually located to the area currently occupied by Valravn Gifts. The ride closed in 1986. |
SchwabinchenOpened: 1970
Closed: 2002 Manufacturer: Mack Rides Location: Million Dollar Midway (1970-1984) Beach Midway (1985-2002) Type: Schwabinchen Schwabinchen was a family spinning ride that opened on the new Million Dollar Midway in 1970. In 1985 it was relocated near Oceanea where it replaced Rotor. Schwabinchen was a German-themed family ride that spun around and up and down on a platform. The ride was sold to Strikers Grove in Ohio but never reopened. |
ScramblerOpened: 1960

Shoot-The-RapidsOpened: 1967
Closed: 1981 Manufacturer: Arrow Dynamics Location: Frontier Town Type: Log Flume Shoot-the-Rapids opened in 1967 as the major ride for the new Frontier Town section of the park. Shoot -the-Rapids was a log flume that was designed by Arrow Development and built by Cedar Point. The ride closed in 1981 and was replaced with White Water landing. |
Shoot The RapidsOpened: 2010
Closed: 2015 Manufacturer: Intamin AG Location: Frontier Trail Type: Log Flume Shoot the Rapids opened in 2010 on Cedar Point's Frontier Trail. Costing 10.5 million dollars, Shoot the Rapids was Cedar Point's tallest, longest and fastest water ride ever built. After many problems, and the ride not living up to expectations, the ride was removed at the end of the 2015 season. |
Sir Rub a Dub's TubOpened: 1986

Closed: 2015 Manufacturer: Gravity Works Location: Challenge Park Type: Skyscraper Skyscraper was moved to Cedar Point in 2008 as Challenge Park's first new ride in many years! The ride was very successful in its short time in operation. After many years, the ride finally outlived its usefulness. |
Sky SlideOpened: 1968
Closed: 1991 Manufacturer: Sky Slide International Location: Beach Midway Type: Giant Slide Sky Slide opened at Cedar Point in 1968. The slide was as high as the Coliseum. Riders rode down the slide in sacks on one of 15 lanes. The slide was removed in 1991 to make room for an expansion to Berenstain Bear Country. |

Closed: 1980 Manufacturer: Allan Herschel Location: Main Midway Type: Double Ferris Wheel Sky Wheel opened at Cedar Point in 1961. Sky Wheel was a terrifying double Ferris Wheel. Sky Wheel was 90 feet tall. It was removed in 1980. |
Snake River ExpeditionOpened: 2021
Location: Gemini Midway Manufacturer: Cedar Point Type: Boat Ride Closed: September 4, 2023 Snake River Expedition was a ride that took riders around Adventure Island. The ride was introduced for Cedar Point's 150th Anniversary Celebration. Snake River Expedition was supposed to be a modern comeback of Paddlewheel Excursions. The ride failed to live up to the expectations of guests and closed in 2023. |
Snake River FallsOpened: 1993
Manufacturer: Arrow Dynamics Location: Frontier Town Type: Shoot the chutes Closed: September 2, 2024 Replaced by: Snake River Falls was an Arrow Dynamics water ride that opened in 1993. Snake River Falls took riders up 83 feet where they floated around in a trough before falling into a pool of water. 15 million riders rode Sake River Falls during its time at Cedar Point. |
Snoopy BounceOpened: 1999
Manufacturer: 2019 Manufacture: Inflatable Images Location: Camp Snoopy Type: Bounce House Snoopy Bounce opened in 1999 in the Camp Snoopy section of the park. Snoopy Bounce was a giant bounce house for kids. The ride was removed in 2019 and was replaced with a new relax zone in 2021. |
Space SpiralOpened: 1965
Closed: August 13, 2012 Manufacturer: Von Roll Location: Beach Midway Type: Von Roll Space Spiral took riders up and above the vast Cedar Point peninsula. It gave views of Cedar Point, lake Erie, Lake Erie Islands, and the city of Sandusky. When it was built in 1965, it was the first ride to be over 300 feet. Space Spiral was Cedar Point's first record-breaking ride. The ride closed quietly on August 13, 2012. |
Speed SlidesOpened: 1988
Closed: 2011 Manufacturer: White Water West Location: Soak City Water Park Type: Speed Slide Speed Slides opened in 1988 at Soak City. Speed Slides were the original racing Slides in the water park. They were removed at the end of 2011 to make room Dragster H20 (later Riptide Raceway). |
Swan BoatsOpened: 1997
Closed: 2003 Manufacturer: Amittelli Products Location: Frontier Town Type: Boat Ride Located in Frontier Town, Swan Boats was a small family ride that riders were able to control their experience by pedaling around in a small pound. In 2004 the ride was relocated to Michigan's Adventure. In 2007 the ride site was used again for Maverick. |
Switchback RailwayOpened: July 10, 1892
Closed: Around 1900, Before 1906 Manufacturer: American Railway Coaster Company of Chicago Location: Current location of Lakeside Pavillion Type: switchback Switchback Railway was Cedar Point's first roller coaster. The ride used no electrical at all. Once the train got to the end of the ride it had to be manually pushed back to the top. Switchback Railway was 25 feet tall and reached speeds of 12 MPH. |
Three-Way Figure Eight Roller TobogganOpened: May 31, 1902
Closed: 1909 Manufacturer: Ingersoll Location: Current location of WindSeeker Type: side-friction coaster Three-way Figure Eight Roller Toboggan was a small roller coaster that was located on the Cedar Point beach. The ride was 46 feet tall and took riders on a ride that featured a figure 8 style layout. |
Tiki TwirlOpened: 1970
Closed: 1984 Manufacturer: Mack Rides Location: Main Midway Type: Calypso In 1970 Cedar Point transformed the original Calypso into Tiki Twirl. The ride was located at the end of the Main Midway. The ride spun around on a tilted platform. The ride closed in 1984 to make room for Matterhorn. |
Tilt-A-WhirlOpened: 1999
Closed: 2018 Manufacturer: Sellner Location: Camp Snoopy Type: Tilt-A-Whirl Tilt-A-Whirl was added to Cedar Point in 1999 to the new Camp Snoopy section of the park. The ride was a classic Tilt-A-Whirl ride. After 19 years of operation, it was decided to change the ride experience. Tilt-a-Whirl was transformed into Linus' Beetle Bugs for the 2019 season to better fit the theme of Camp Snoopy. |
Top Thrill DragsterOpened: May 4,2003
Closed: August 15, 2021 Manufacturer: Intamin AG Location: Corkscrew Midway Type: strata coaster Top Thrill Dragster opened in 2003 as the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world. Top thrill Dragster launched riders at speeds of 120 MPH up its huge 420-foot hill. Top Thrill Dragster was the first roller coaster in the world over 400 feet. This 17-second ride was a huge thrill for thrill-seekers. |
TrabantOpened: 1966
Closed: 1990 Manufacturer: Chance Rides Location: Main Midway Type: Trabant Trabant was a spinning ride that was located on the Main Midway. It opened in 1966 and remained a park favorite until it was removed in 1990. |
Tumble BugOpened: 1934
Closed: 1963 Manufacturer: Traver Engineering Location: Amusement Circle Type: Tumble Bug Tumble Bug opened at Cedar Point in 1934. The ride took riders in a circle and went up and down small hills. The ride was very popular when it opened. It was removed after the 1963 season due to age. |

VertigoOpened: 2001
Closed: 2001 Manufacturer: S&S Location: Challenge Park Type: Sky Sling Vertigo opened in August 2001 in the Challenge Park section of the park. Vertigo was a sling shot style ride that featured connecting seats that would tilt. The ride was removed because one of the towers collapsed during the winter. |

Closed: 1986 Manufacturer: Cedar Point Location: Million Dollar Midway Type: Family Boat Ride Western Cruise opened at Cedar Point in 1964. The ride took guests on a journey back into the days of the old west. The ride closed in 1986 and was moved to the Gemini Midway. It was renamed Paddlewheel Excursions for the 1987 season. |

White Water landing was the world's largest Hydro Flume that was ever built when it opened. It was considered Cedar Point's most themed ride. Closed: September 6,2021 Manufacturer: Intamin AG Location: Cedar Point Beach behind Giant Wheel. Type: impulse coaster Wicked Twister was a 215 foot tall Impulse Coaster. Riders would be launched forwards 3 times and backwards twice. Wicked Twister was Cedar Point's first launch coaster. |

WildCat featured a figure-eight style layout. The ride opened in 1979 and it was placed near Space Spiral. The ride was moved to the Million Dollar Midway for the 1985 season to make room for Avalanche Run. It closed in 2011 to make room for Celebration Plaza. |
