1870-Cedar Point's first season. Cedar Point is founded by Louis Zistel.
-Cedar Point was first used as a bathing beach and a place to relax and cool down. Guest first arrived to the peninsula on the boat Young Reindeer. |
1877-Hunting is prohibited on Cedar Point property by land owners.

-James West builds several bath houses near the Cedar Point beach. Bathing suit rentals are made available for the first time at Cedar Point.

-Harry Molleneux and M. Hammond open a new bathhouse near Biemiller's Cove.

-Water Trapeze opens on the Cedar Point beach. It is Cedar Point's first recorded ride.

-Sand is excavated from the Cedar Point peninsula. The sand is used to make concrete.

1882-8 new bath houses are built, a new boat dock is built, and a small dance house opens. New Steam Ships are added.
-Benjamin F. Dwelle and William Slackford lease the Cedar Point peninsula. -A new boat dock is built between Biemiller's Cove and the lighthouse. -Steamer ''R.B. Hayes'' takes guests to Biemiller's Cove. -Steamer "Lutts" takes guests to the lighthouse. 1886-Water channels are dug into Sandusky Bay due to the bay being shallow and increased boat traffic.
-The sandbar outside of Biemiller's Cove is dredged. This area would later become part of the Cedar Point Causeway. |
1883-Benjamin F. Dwelle and William Slackford renew their lease to operate Cedar Point.
-The Bay Pier opens. It is the Marina Pier today. -Great Western Band performs at the Picnic Grove on the beach. 1884-Great Western Band plays at the new bandstand.
-A small playground is added. -There are 16 bathhouses at Cedar Point by this time. -Steamer "H.B. Wilson" takes guests to Biemiller's Cove. 1887-At the end of the 1887 a new management team consisting of Adam Stoll, Louis Adolph, Jacob Kuebeler, Benjamin Dwelle, and Charles Baetz is announced. They are local Sandusky businessmen. They announce big plans are in the future for Cedar Point.
-Cedar Point Steamboat Company is formed. (November 1) |
1888-The Grand Pavilion opens.
-New clearings are made and stagnant pools are filled up. -Great Western Band is added in front of the Grand Pavilion. -Steamer I.M. Weston is charted for service to Cedar Point. |
1889-New Board Walk opens.
-The Ladies Pavilion opens. -Electric plant is installed at Cedar Point. -Cedar Point puts on a fireworks show in front of the Grand Pavilion. The show features music from The Great Western Band. -Bowling alleys are moved out of the Grand Pavilion to their own building. -An entertainment area is added to the first floor of the Grand Pavilion. |

-A water toboggan is added to the Cedar Point beach.

-Cedar Point Pleasure and Resort Company file a lawsuit against The American Railway Coaster Company of Chicago. They were having a profit dispute over the Switchback Railway. (March 31)

-The attractions on the beach include: a pony track, diving platform, water toboggan, horizontal bars, water trapeze, and bicycle boats.

-The main dining room is enlarged. The kitchen is renovated.
-A new diving pier and platforms are installed. -A new carousel opens. -The water toboggan is replaced. -Construction of the Cedar Point Jetty begins. Over the years it is extended many times. The jetty helps control the tides for the beach. |
-The government owned pier by there lighthouse is extended into Lake Erie.
-A new 250 seat dining hall and pavilion is added next to The Grand Pavilion. -Ohio State's biology divisions starts studying on the Cedar Point peninsula. |
1897
-George Arthur Boeckling buys Cedar Point for $256,000. It is unknown why Mr. Boeckling was in Sandusky.
For the rest of his life Mr. Boeckling would be running the resort. He didnt want Cedar Point to be known as an amusement park. Rumor has it that he only wanted the amusement circle because it made money. Under the direction of Mr. Boeckling, the amusement park was NEVER mentioned in the resorts marketing materials. |

-Bathouses are renovated.
-New beach attractions are added including a cable swing, a new bicycle track, a new carousel, and amphitheater.

-Guest are able to dance for the first time at Cedar Point. -15 cottages are built between Hotel Breakers and the west pier. -Arrest warrant is issued for George Arther Boeckling. He violated the state alcohol sales law. The case is later dismissed. (August 13) -Charles Baetz sold all of his stock to Jacob Kuebler. (November 12) |

-G.A. Boeckling buys stock from Louis Adolph and Adam Stroll.
-During a board meeting the Cedar Point Pleasure and Resort Company comes to a conclusion that it will not open for the 1901 season. (February 11)

-Construction beings on The White Hotel. (May 7)
-The White House Hotel opens. It was designed by Oliver Marble. (July 29)
-A new dance pavilion is built.

-Three-way figure eight roller toboggan opens. -White House Hotel is renovated. -A fun house opens. -Water Toboggan is replaced with a new one. -A Carousel opens. -A boardwalk is built on the Cedar Point beach. -Bathhouse is expanded and enlarged to add additional capacity. -Electric is added to the cottages. -A new pavilion is built as a picnic basket check. It would later become the Pagoda Gift Shop. -A miniature railway is added from the boat docks to the beach. -Pony Track opens. -The first Cedar Point band march is performed. -Cedar Point Improvement Company approve plans for Hotel Breakers to be built. -Sea Swing opens. -Use of the Cedar Point Lighthouse is discontinued. -Dance Hall is renovated. -Bay Dock is renovated to feature a covered roof and new lights. -Cedar Point buys several scenery items from the world's fair. They are placed around the park. -Jacob Kuebler dies of heart failure. (June 18) -Terminal building in Downtown Sandusky catches on fire. The fire is put out and the building is fixed. (June 21) |
1905
-Hotel Breakers opens. It is one of the largest hotels anywhere. (June 12)
-Cedar Point finishes dredging the lagoons. -Boardwalk is expanded. -Bathhouse is enlarged to 1,200 changing rooms. -Kinodrome is renamed The Cedar Point Theatre. -Golds Dorms are built for associates. -Hermitage is built between The White House Hotel and the lagoons. -Penny Arcade opens. |
1906-The Coliseum is built on Cedar Point's Main Midway.
-The Amusement Circle opens. It is Cedar Point's first real midway. The midway included: a miniature railway, Cascades, Circle Swing, A Trip to Rockaway, a skating rink, Hale's Tours, several funhouses, bowling alleys, penny arcades and A House of Merth. A new carousel is the centerpiece of the new area. -Lakeshore Railroad beings running from Cleveland to Sandusky. -The old carousel building is renovated and turned into a new pavilion. -A new electric plant is built. -The Administration building is built to house all of the park's offices. It is used until the new Cedar Fair Corporate building opens in 2008. |
1907-Cedar Point buys the Johnson Island Resort. (January 31)
-A larger boat dock is built. It is called the West dock and is located near the Lighthouse. This allows ships to come directly to Cedar Point without stopping in Sandusky. -United States Post Office opens at Cedar Point. It is located on land owned by the government near the lighthouse. -Steamer "Eastland" is added to Cedar Point steamboat service. -Hotel Breakers is expanded to include 100 more rooms. -Final Season For: Skating Rink. |

-Dip the Dips Scenic Railway opens.
-Mundy's Trained Wild Animal Show opens. -Regular steamboat service is added from Toledo and Detroit. -Cedar Point purchases Johnson's Island Pleasure and Resort Company. |
-Steamer "G.A. Boeckling" makes its appearance.
-Johnson's Island resort is entirely closed. Some things are moved to Cedar Point. -Automobile Scenic Railway opens. The ride was very unpopular and was removed in July. -Cedar Point Improvement Company is incorporated. -Final Season For: Figure Eight Roller Toboggan. |

-G.A. Boeckling acquires controlling interest in Cedar Point.
-A new bathhouse opens. It is the largest in the world. -Figure Eight Roller Toboggan is moved down the beach, rebuilt and renamed, The Racer. -Glenn Curtis sets a world record when he flies a plane from Euclid Beach to Cedar Point. -Legislation is introduced to the state of Ohio to make Cedar Point a village, rather than part of Ohio. |

-Boat rentals are made available to Cedar Point guests in the lagoons.
-Cedar Point announced plans to build what would become the Cedar Point Chausee. -Glean Curtis gives plane rides to guests. -A new boat terminal is built in downtown Sandusky to replace the old one. -Cedar Point Post Office is relocated near Hotel Breakers. |
-Leap The Dips Scenic Railway opens. It is located on the approximate site of Blue Streak.
-Tony Jannus gives guests seaplane rides from the Cedar Point beach. -Cedar Point acquires the rest of the land it needed to build the Chausee. There had been a dispute over land with Rye Beach Resort. -Cedar Point Improvement Company is re-incorporated. Their goal was to make plans for the Cedar Point Chausee. |

-George Arthur Boeckling announces that a generator is being built to extend lights to the Cedar Point Chausee. (April 30) -Cedar Point Chausee opens in June. It is the first road to Cedar Point. -The "Eastland" is sold to a company in Chicago. -Final Season For: The White House Hotel. |

-The boardwalk is replaced with a new one.
-Upgrades were made to the following attractions: The Cascades, Leap-The-Dips, and The Racer. -A large parking lot is built on the north end of the Chausee. -A large sign is placed at the intersection Cleveland road and the Chausee. -An aquarium is built south of the bathhouse on the boardwalk. -The terminal building in downtown Sandusky is remodeled to handle larger crowds. -George Arthur Boeckling builds an octagonal house at the end of the Cedar Point Chausee. It would be torn down in the 1980's to make room for a parking lot expansion. -The first resident moved into the Chausee. The houses built before this time were mostly for summer homes. (April 18) -Final Season For: The Grandstand in front of The Grand Pavilion. -Tony Jannus dies in Russia while he was showing airplanes to the Russian army. (November 1) |
-Leap Frog Railway opens.
-Aero Joyplane opens. -Steamship R.B. Hayes is rebuilt. -A new wing is added to the east side of Hotel Breakers. -New luncheonettes are added to Hotel Breakers and Cedars Hotels. -A modern Bake Shop is added to Hotel Breakers. -When the G.A. Boeckling was returning the the Sandusky Pier it slightly hit the dock. This caused a small panic and within a few minutes it was forgotten about. (August 3) |

-After prohibition is put in place Crystal Rock Castle is no longer used as a restaurant.
-Due to war time restrictions, some things such as sugar, coal, gas, and meat are harder for the resort to offer. -Parking garage is expanded. |
-Cedar Point announces it had purchased 17 acres of land near Cleveland Road so they can build a causeway. (April 26)
-Eden Musee opens. -The coliseum is remodeled. -George Arthur Boeckling announced that at least 100 rooms would be added to Hotel Breakers. (September 8) -Construction begins on a new entrance to the Chausee. (October 16) |

-The entrance to the Cedar Point Chausee is moved two miles west. Over the years it had been destroyed by weather.
-The west pier is rebuilt due to weather damage over the winter from ice. -A second story is added to the Bathhouse.It doubled it's capacity. -Tennis courts are added near Hotel Breakers. |
-A convection of Sandusky made products is held in the Crystal Rock Castle.
-The Jetty is extended and is raised higher above the water. They also add a fog horn and light to make it more visible. -A soda bottling plant was built next to the Coliseum. |

-The first floor of the coliseum is remodeled.
-Urns and statues that were purchased from the 1920 World's Fair are added to Cedar Point. |
-Cedar Point spends $150,000 (Approximately $2.5M as of 2023) on general improvements around the resort.
-Cedar Point signs a contract with Roy Dickson to provide the resort with soft drinks and candy. -A cement road is added from the resort area to the west boat docks. -A parking gauge is built on the bayside of the peninsula. -The Marina dock was replaced with a concrete dock. -Cedar Point announces it is building a larger hotel west of Hotel Breakers. Land is cleaned but construction never started. -Final Season For: Bowling Alleys. |

-Cedar Point's first Kiddieland opens.
-Caterpillar opens. -A tornado destroys the downtown boat dock. (June 28) -A 500 car parking garage is built within The Racer. -A miniature tram is added from the west dock to the resort area. -The Cascades ride is updated. -Canoes rentals are added to the lagoons. -A concrete road is added from the Marina Dock to the resort area. -A 60' tall Ferris Wheel is added to the beach. |
-Noah's Ark opens.
-Skooter opens. -Steamer "America" is purchased. -Hellen Keller speaks to the Lions Club in the Grand Pavilion. (June 30) -Cedar Point experiments with night bathing. It fails and the idea is abandoned. |

-Bon-Air wing of Hotel Breakers opens. It is removed after the 2014 season.
-Cleminshaw Company of Cleveland appraises Cedar Point at $2,757,500. This number was argued and taken to court. The final appraisal reached was in 1931 for $832,500. |

-Bluebeard's Place opens. -Tilt-A-Whirl opens. -Whippet races are held. |
1928

1929
-The Cyclone roller coaster opens.
-The Cedar Point Bridge Company is established. Their goal is to build the causeway. -Dancing is moved from the second floor of the coliseum to the first. -A roller skating rank opens on the second floor of the coliseum. -The Cedar Point road is damaged from a wind storm. (May 2) -Cedar Point denies rumors that they will close due to poor water conditions. (July 16) -Cedar Point announces plans to spend 1 million dollars to build the Cedar Point Causeway. (November 17) |
1930-The Cedars Hotel is closed for the season. With the depression the hotel space was not needed.
-A miniature golf course opens on the east side of the peninsula. -George Arthur Boeckling was in a Cleveland hospital for several weeks. -Adam Stroll dies. (July 18) |
1931-The Cedars Hotel reopens when the resort is expected to be busy.
-George Arthur Boeckling died. He was 69. (July 24) -Cedar Point Property Association is incorporated. It is used to promote the general welfare of people who own property at Cedar Point. -Crystal Rock Castle is remodeled. -1931 was the last year Cedar Point paid out dividends to its investors for over 20 years. -Alexander M. Wagner is named president of Cedar Point. |

-Leaping Lena opens.
-Crystal Rock Castle is converted to the Castle Sandwich Shop. -The Cedars Hotel was turned into associate housing. -New tennis courts are added near Hotel Breakers. -The Cedar Point Post Office is moved to the building that now houses the Pagoda Gift Shop. -The Jetty is repaired by the US Army of Engineers. |

-A telephone cable is laid in the Sandusky Bay. It connects Cedar Point phone lines to Sandusky phone lines. (April 1)
-The second floor of the coliseum is resurfaced for roller skating once again. -A telephone Switchboard is added to the Administration Building. -Octopus ride opens. -Hi-De-Ho fun house opens. It replaces the cascades. -The Funny Monkey Circus of Florida opens. -Cedar Point announces that the rumor that Cedar Point would be acquitted my the state of Ohio was not going to happen. (May 15) |

-Second floor of the coliseum is remodeled into the art dec ballroom style that it features today. The dance floor and skating rank are converted into a ballroom with a refreshment stand.

-The Rotunda and lounge are renovated at Hotel Breakers.

-Linoleum floors are added to the entrance of the Hotel Breakers.
-Two electric signs are added to give guest directions to Hotel Breakers. -A new boat dock is added in downtown Sandusky to handle smaller boats. -A sandwich shop opens in the ball room. -The Cedars Hotel is used for Ohio Band Camp and Plum Brook Ordinance Works. -Yankee Bullet opens. -Monkey Rackers opens. -A girl is accidentally pushed into the path of the Cyclone roller coaster. Her leg is fractured when the train ran over it. (June 17) |
-Roll-A-Plane opens.
-Berardi family opens their first french fry stand at Cedar Point. Over the years the family would have several restaurants and also run some of the rides. -The Corral opens. It first was an ice cream stand. |

-Steamship service between Cleveland, Ohio and Cedar Point is no longer offered. This is the first time since 1906 that this was not offered.
-Final Season For: Tilt-A-Whirl. |

-Hotel Breakers Lobby is completely redecorated.
-All concessions are converted to AC Motors. Power is now provided by Ohio Public Service Company.
-Cedar Point announces the coliseum ballroom would not open for the 1945 season. This is because they couldn't use big name bands due to wartime restrictions. (May 8)
-Floyd Woolsey's Side Show of Southern Wonders opens.

1946-Midway Carousel is moved to Cedar Point from Reserve Beach in Massachusetts. Today it is Cedar Point's oldest existing ride.
-Moon Rocket opens. The ride had poor business and wasn't very popular. -Bobalo funhouse opens in the former location of Fun Barracks. -A new rollerskating rink opens replacing Wax Works. -The State Of Ohio announces that they are searching for areas to add two new state parks. (March 4) -The ballroom is renovated to have more room for dating. -A small bathhouse is built by the lagoons. -Big name bands return to the ball room for the 1946 season. (June 15) -Final Season For: Roller Skating Rink. |

-The board of directors were authorized by the stockholders to sell the resort. It had not made a profit since 1931.
-Cleveland Road is expanded with another lane to eliminate traffic jams and accidents. -Roller Skating Rink is renovated and split into two different locations. -Spaghetti Hut opens in the former Roller Skating Rink building. -The Ghost Train Dark Ride opens in the former Roller Skating Rink building. -A World of Mirth funhouse opened. -Kids rides are added. -Cyclone roller coaster is listed for sale. -The entrance to the Cedar Point Chausee on Route 6 is redesigned. These changes are how it is today.
-The Collisuem ball room does not open for the 1948 season. A makeshift dance floor is added to the first floor. -Steamboat service from Cleveland to Cedar Point is discontinued. -'Get to the Point' is used as an advertising slogan. -Final Season For: Moon Rocket. -A bronze plaque is added to the Cedar Point beach in honor of the 1910 Curtis flight landing on the Cedar Point beach. -Bobalo Fun House is listed for sale. -G.A. Boeckling announces to its stockholders that the resort would would be leased to Torrence Melrose for 10 years. (February 4)
-During a stockholder meeting a motion by Boeckling Trust Fund beneficiaries is made to stop the lease agreement with Melrose. (February 13) -The lease with Melrose to operate the resort is approved. Anything non-resort operations will still be controlled by the G.A. Boeckling Company. (February 22) -Torrence Melrose takes control of Cedar Point. Melrose-Cedar Point Inc is formed. (April 1) -The first road that goes to Hotel Breakers is opened. This road is the early Cedar Point Drive that now goes around the park. |

-Daniel M. Schneider takes over Torrence Melrose's lease to operate Cedar Point. (March 22)
-Lower floor of the Coliseum is remodeled to have a beer garden on one side. -A parking lot is built to the left of the Bon Air wing of Hotel Breakers. -Glass House opens. -Kiddie Merry-Go-Round is relocated near the center of the midway. -Cedar Point and Greyhound form an agreement where Greyhound will stop at Cedar Point. -Final Season For: G.A. Boeckling steam ship. |
-A new 10 ride Kiddieland opens. Rides include: Sky Fighters, Roto Whip, Helicopters, Kiddie Handcar, a Ferris Wheel, and Fire Truck. This Kiddieland is located on the present day Kiddy Kingdom site.

-B.G.Ziehr announces 800 houses will be built in the lagoon area. (April 6) -Ohio House of Representatives vote to give Cedar Point permission to build the causeway. (May 18) -Super Coaster opens in Kiddieland. -Fishing is added to the West Pier. -The Ohio Senate vote to give Cedar Point permission to build the causeway. (June 3) -Ohio Governor Frank Lausche vetoes bill to build the causeway. (June 22) -Ohio House of Representatives vote to override the governors veto to build the causeway. -Dean Sheldon purchases the land around the first Cedar Point road. He establishes Sheldon's Marsh.
-The Cedar Point Bridge Company applies for a permit with the Army of Engineers to build the causeway. (March 26) -Eden Musee opens. -Grills are added to the picnic pavilions. |
1955
-Fascination opens.
-U-Drive-Em Cruisers (Power Boats) opens in the lagoons. -The first Guessing Game opens. -Roll-O-Plane is sold to Eugene and Albert Berardi. -Western Express opens. -G.A. Boeckling convoys to the Sandusky Development Company land that would eventually become Cedar Cove. |
1956
-Cedar Point Bridge Company files a law suit against L.A. Wells Construction Comapny. Cedar Point Bridge Company complains that L.A. Wells didn't build the Causeway like they should have. They also say they stopped working on the project. (August 6)
-Cedar Point is bought by George Roose and Emile Legross from Cleveland, Ohio. (May 2) -Fly-O-Wheel ride opens. -State of Ohio announces they are considering acquiring Cedar Point and turning it into a state park. -Scrambler is relocated from the Main Midway to the Boardwalk. It is renovated to become Atomic Scrambler.

-Tiki Twirl is re-themed and renamed Calypso.
-Troika receives a new paint scheme as well as new logos.
