Sky Wheel remained in its location near the front gate until the ride left Cedar Point. Guests loved Sky Wheel. It gave riders an incredible view of Cedar Point.
By the late 1970's Sky Wheel became dated. The ride had been painted several times over the years. Newer rides installed at the park made Sky Wheel outdated technology.
After 19 years of operation, Sky Wheel would close at the end of the 1980 season. The ride was removed from Cedar Point and scrapped.
After Sky Wheel was removed from Cedar Point the ride site would be a flower bed for the next 13 years.
In 1994 Midway Carousel needed a new location to make room for Raptor. Midway Carousel was relocated to the former location of Sky Wheel. The ride was restored and put in a new location. It remains there to this day.
