Steel Vengeance
2018
Steel Vengeance opened in 2018 as the world's first Hyper Hybrid Roller Coaster. Steel Vengeance reuses the structure of the former Mean Streak. Steel Vengeance is a great ride!
In 2010, Cedar Point opened Shoot the Rapids. Shoot the Rapids was a flume ride that sent riders around on a journey that gave the longest ride in the park. In 2011, Cedar Point once again sent riders over 300 feet with the new WindSeeker. When WindSeeker opened in 2011, it was the tallest ride of its kind. After years of experience, long time CEO Dick Kinzel retired in January 2012 and was replaced by Matt Ouimet. Matt was a former Disney executive. In 2012, Dinosaurs Alive! opened as a new themed experience. After a 5 year drought with no new roller coaster, GateKeeper started flying over the new front gate plaza in 2013. In 2014, the Gemini Midway was refreshed and new rides arrived. In 2015, the Stand Up Roller Coaster Mantis was converted to the floorless style Rougarou. Valravn began diving into the middle of the park in 2016. In 2017, Soak City Waterpark was re-branded to become Cedar Point Shores Waterpark.
With all the new things that were opening in the previous years to 2018, Cedar Point would turn to one of its previous coasters to expand on that idea.
On May 11, 1991, Mean Streak became the first wooden roller coaster added to Cedar Point in 27 years. Mean Streak was the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in the world in 1991.
When Mean Streak opened, it was an okay ride. It was much smoother then it would be later. Even though the ride was an okay ride, it didn't raise attendance like prior roller coasters and attractions did.
While Mean Streak did have its fans, it never gained popularity. Mean Streak quickly became the roughest and most hated ride in the park.
On August 1, 2016, Cedar Point Announced that Mean Streak was getting it's Axe on September 16.
On September 16, 2016, Cedar Point had a funeral for Mean Streak. Just like that, the ride closed forever.
Mean Streak would be laid to rest in Cedar Point's ride cemetery on the Main Midway.
After Mean Streak closed, crews began to remove the wooden track. However, speculation on what was going to happen with the ride started to arise. For some odd reason, they forgot to take the structure itself down.
On April 1, 2017, Cedar Point released a video on Twitter called ''They're Coming'. This was the first time since the ride closed that anything about Mean Streak was mentioned by Cedar Point. The video showed that new dark red track had been installed on the ride.
In June and July, two more teasers were released. In late July, press kits were sent out announcing that details were being released on August 16, 2017.
On August 16, 2017, Cedar Point announced that they were transforming the former Mean Streak into the new Steel Vengeance, a record-breaking roller coaster.
Steel Vengeance is located at the very back of the park. To access the ride you have to cross the train tracks of the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad.

Theming
Steel Vengeance is themed as a roller coaster that 3 outlaws have built to out do Maverick and to take over Frontier Town.
While waiting in line, guests go past signs and posters that tell the backstory of the ride. These signs give details of Frontier Town and what kind of people run the town. In July 2018, Cedar Point put a new policy in place prohibiting cell phones from being in the line for Steel Vengeance.
Ride Experience
Steel Vengeance was the first Hyper-Hybrid roller coaster ever built! The term Hyper coaster was coined by Cedar Point in 1989 when the park built Magnum XL-200!
Steel Vengeance has some very unique elements. The ride features the above outwards banked hill. This is unique because roller coasters normally bank on the inside of a turn. The feeling is really cool and sends riders out of their seats with a great feeling of airtime!
Going beyond Expectations!
In 2018, Steel Vengeance was named best ride for the year by Amusement Today. The ride was also named the 3rd best roller coaster in the world, losing only to Carowinds's Fury 325 and the park's own Millennium Force.
After Steel Vengeance, opened in 2018, Cedar Point would add: Forbidden Frontier on Adventure Island (2019), Cedar Point's 150th Anniversary Celebration (2021), and The Boardwalk (2023). These new attractions have all helped to diversify Cedar Point's collection of attractions.
