Calypso
1970-2014
In the 1960's Cedar Point was adding attractions that would grow its collection. In 1962 guest could see the sights without ever riding a roller coaster when Sky Ride opened in the Main Midway. 1963 brought the Cedar Point and Lake Erie Railroad as well as The Mill Race. Mill Race was only the second Log Flume ride that was ever built. The ever-popular Blue Streak (1964) was the first major roller coaster to open at Cedar Point since 1929. Space Spiral became the tallest ride in the world when it opened in 1965. In 1966 Cedar Point opened Pirate Ride. Pirate Ride was a dark ride that took guests back in time to when pirates ransacked the high seas. Frontier Town opened in 1967. In 1968 SkySlide opened just off the Main Midway. In 1969, Cedar Point added its next roller coaster, Cedar Creek Mine Ride.
In the Marnia Cedar Point added Pet Check, a pet sitting service.
Near the Front of the park Cedar Point added The Centennial Theatre, Calypso, and Hofbrau Gardens. Kiddieland was expanded to double its size. It was advertised as the largest in the world. On the Beach Cedar Point added the WildCat Roller Coaster and the Sealand attraction. The train station was moved back to make way for a new midway. The new midway was called Million Dollar Midway. Million Dollar Midway was home to: Bayern Kurve, Dodgem 2, Himalaya, Monster and Tiki Twirl. The Western Cruise's station was also relocated here and Paddlewheel Cafe opened. 53 years later: All of these attractions have been relocated or removed. |
To make room for Raptor Cedar Point demolished Mill Race. Turnpike Cars were rebuilt, and Calypso would be relocated.

For the 1994 season Calypso was relocated to a corner between Blue Streak and Turnpike Cars.

Tiki Twirl
2015-2022
Tiki Twirl was a reimagine of Cedar Point's Calypso ride.
On Saturday, February 21, 2015 Cedar Point announced it was remodeling the Wicked Twister Midway. Dodgem, and Calypso were going to move to the midway.
Calypso was going to be renamed and rethemed as Tiki Twirl. |
Tiki Twirl was placed to the left of Giant Wheel. The ride was directly in between Wicked Twister, 3 Point Challenge, and the Extreme Sports Stadium.

Calypso was built by Mack Rides. Mack Rides also built Super Himalaya, Matterhorn, the original calypso, and Schwabinchen for Cedar Point.
